Understanding SPC

SPC stands for Stone Plastic Composite, a rigid-core vinyl built around a dense core of limestone and stabilizers. That stone-based core is what sets SPC apart from standard vinyl and laminate. It does not swell, warp, or react to moisture, which makes it one of the most stable and hardworking floors you can put down in a home or commercial space.

How it's built

  • UV Coating — a clear top seal that locks in shine and gives the plank its first line of defense against scratches and stains.

  • Wear Layer — the clear, protective layer beneath the coating that resists scratches, scuffs, and stains throughout the plank's life.

  • Print Film (Décor Layer) — a high-definition print that gives each plank its realistic wood look.

  • SPC Core — the rigid stone-composite center that delivers waterproof stability and strength underfoot.

  • UNICLIC Click-Lock — the locking edge profile that joins planks together for a tight, secure install.

  • IXPE Underlayment (the "+1") — the attached backing pad that adds comfort, warmth, and sound reduction, and is what makes CoverLand’s SPC a 5+1 or 4+1 system.
